Letting Go

Pilot is the first episode of the first season of Body of Proof.

Background[]

Dr. Megan Hunt was previously a neurosurgeon. She was in a car accident 5 years ago, leading to paresthesia (nerve damage resulting in prickling or tingling) in her dominant hand. This condition eventually causes her to inadvertently kill a patient while operating on the patient's tumour.

After this incident, she leaves neurosurgery and becomes a medical examiner as, according to her, she can't kill someone who is dead.

Plot[]

In this episode, Megan and her partner investigate the death of a young woman named Angela Swanson, who was killed from a blow to the head while jogging. The DNA evidence proves that Angela was having an affair with her boss, Brad.

Megan's investigation shows that Angela was poisoned which caused her to pass out and hit her head. Brad's wife confesses to poisoning Angela's sport drink after he discovered Brad and Angela having sex.

Meanwhile, Megan's ex-husband was granted full custody of their 12-year-old daughter, Lacey during their divorce 5 years ago due to Megan's job demanding so many hours. Lacey and Megan's relationship is strained as a result. For Lacey's 12th birthday, Megan gives her daughter a key to her apartment, where she is always welcome. The episode ends with Megan coming home to find that Lacey has left a piece of birthday cake on her kitchen counter.
